My Summary Page

My Overview.

These are the articles I based my research off of:

Why gun sales spike after (some) shootings

Gun stocks are rallying (as they usually do after a mass shooting)

Mass shootings don't boost gun sales anymore. Here's why

In conclusion, I found that both search topics spike after mass shootings. This is expected, as it becomes quite a hot topic at the forefront of everyone's minds. My hypothesis was proven true as the conservative states had more searches with regards to purchasing guns whereas liberal states had majority of searches in favor of gun control. Unfortunately, I cannot conclude what these searches actually led to(if searching for "buy a gun" actually leads to purchasing a gun) so I cannot make any conclusions about the increase in gun sales. But I can conclude that these searches generally show different interests in different parts of America. As the articles mentioned, some poeple become fearful of impending gun legislation and make moves towards consolidating more weapons to protect their rights. Others make moves to become more active and knowledgeable about gun legislation. Either way, the spike in both search trends following the mass shooting shows that people have strong feelings in both ways, which is a big reason why not much has been done recently.
